Nembrini Consulting Outlook for 2023

by J. Benghiat

Looking back on the year 2022, Nembrini Consulting has published several articles on varied topics that sit at the intersection of two criteria:  First we have a firm belief that each of those topics offers the perspective of continued growth in its respective field; and second, our collaborators bring their expertise to the table for these topics, either through past projects or through experience and personal interest.

Topics that we’ve covered in 2022, include: New ways of working; PIM; Analytics for digital marketing; Internal digitalisation; Kitchen Automation Systems; AI for large-scale retail; The power of containers and Kubernetes; Bringing AR and VR into the everyday home; OMS and headless commerce.

As our objective is to make Outlook topics more relevant to you, the reader, the agenda for 2023 will take a different approach as we will focus on multi-part series that will deep-dive into specific areas of general topics that are of incredible relevance to everyone and every organisation in today’s very particular times.

Here we offer a glimpse into 3 of those general topics:

Sustainability:  Beyond being an ever-growing buzzword for the past two decades, sustainability has never been more relevant to each individual than it is today. Governments around the world are investing heavily in sustainability initiatives, with the cumulative spending reaching trillions in some cases to implement and execute on policy and regulations.  Businesses are equally rethinking their entire models, including their sourcing and logistics, as consumers demand environmentally and socially responsible products.

In this multi-part series, we’ll take a look at what sustainability exactly is, the 17 sustainability development goals that have been defined by the UN, what those goals mean to us and to the industry, and the challenges that we face in implementing (and reporting!) on those goals.

Cybersecurity:  With the mad rush to digitalise every last process in business and in the public space, in our own homes, and in our own personal lives outside of the home, we have never been more exposed to cyber-attacks.

Opposite of the targets (or victims), perpetrators have never been as numerous and organised.  They operate anonymously, as one-man-shows, or together for coordinated attacks, often disguised as trusted authorities (either government or public service). Irrespective of whether or not they obtain what they want from their victims, one thing is certain: Any attempt to cyber-hack or to cyber-defraud individuals, the public sector, or companies, large or small, will ultimately generate chaos and considerably lose the trust of the intended victims on any digital platform.

Artificial Intelligence:

The year started with OpenAI “gifting” ChatGPT to the public. If the company is not new to the insiders, the new version of its Artificial Intelligence is quite a game changer.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming the way we live, work, and interact. From virtual personal assistants to self-driving cars, AI is changing the landscape of technology and pushing the boundaries of what is possible. In this multi-part series, we will dive into the fundamentals of AI and explore its current applications. We will examine the various types of AI, including machine learning, deep learning, and computer vision, and discuss their significance in today’s world. Additionally, we will address the ethical and social implications of AI, including issues such as privacy, accountability, and bias. Finally, we will look to the future and discuss how AI is likely to evolve, and what impact it will have on society. Whether you are a beginner or an expert in the field, this series will provide a comprehensive and accessible overview of AI, and help you understand its current impact on our world.

The above is merely a preview of topics that will be discussed in 3 multi-part series for Outlook 2023. We hope that you will find it of interest and of good relevance to your own daily lives.  Welcome to change and technology. Welcome 2023!
